Financial Wellness for Remote Workers

What does financial wellness even mean? Having enough money for the rent each month? Or perhaps having a specified surplus of funds at the end of the month? Although there are different stages of financial wellness, annuity defines it as a state in which you can manage all bills, expenses, debts, and financial goals, now and in the foreseeable future. Financial wellness also plays a part in your mental health which in turn affects your physical health.

Remote Workers and Finances

Since the pandemic there has been a rise in remote workers. Some positions have gone back to in-person while other positions have become permanently remote. How does this affect them and their financial wellness?

It can be hard to work from home. Especially when one finds themselves needing to make an at-home office. In the first year of the pandemic, we saw a 43% increase in ecommerce

Imagine how much money it takes to start up a home office and then maintain it. A printer, toners, paper, software, and so on. It can be hard on your finances and there’s no guarantee that your remote position won’t revert back to in person. Rendering your home office is no longer necessary.

In uncertain times, it’s always best to weigh all your options and think both short and long term. Consider the following;

  • Do I work best alone, or in a collaborative environment?

  • Do I have the financial stability to invest in a home office?

  • Will my home office and money invested be utilized if my position is no longer remote?

  • Are there more affordable options?
